Our First Week!

We had a great first week in room B2!  We read the book The Little School Bus.  Students learned to identify the characters in the story.  We also used the vocabulary words first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth when discussing the order in which the characters entered the bus.

Students also completed various literacy stations.  Students rotate to a different station each day.

At the "car station" students cut and glued environmental print words into their own book.  Recognizing environmental print makes children feel successful at reading and motivates them to read more!  Environmental print book from: kellyskindergarten.com

At the "truck station" students used pattern blocks to make letters of the alphabet.  The letter cards were made from makinglearningfun.com.

At the "mail carrier station" students used stickers to make their name.

At the "train station" students used foam letters to place in the correct order on the alphabet arc.

Students selected a letter from the box and found the matching letter on the alphabet arc.  The alphabet arcs were printed from www.fcrr.org

At the "caboose station" students used play-doh to make capital and lowercase letters.  The play-doh mats were made from Carl's Corner.

I'm looking forward to another great week!

Beginning of the Year Fun!

Students were very busy this week completing projects that are now displayed in the hallway.  We had lots of fun completing the Look-at-Me Glyph pictured below.

my buttons= my age
my crayon= my favorite color
pants= I am a boy
 dress= I am a girl

We also read the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  After reading the story, students made their own coconut tree and decorated the tree with the letters of their name.

Thank you to Kim Jordano at kinderbykim.com for the ideas.   Remember all kindergarten students will report to school on Tuesday, August 23.  It is going to be a great year!

Classroom Pictures

The classroom is finally ready!

We have various "stations" throughout the room.  This is the classroom library.  When students visit this station they will listen to a book using headphones.  After listening to the story, they will use the writing desk to write/draw their favorite part of the story.

 This is our calendar board.  Every day we will have a calendar time.  During this time I will teach many math skills including money, counting, numeral recognition, place value, weather, and much more!

At the beginning of our day, we have a morning meeting.  During this time, students practice phonics and writing skills.

This is our writing station.  On the wall of the writing station is our popcorn word wall.  Sight words that we will be learning in kindergarten are called "popcorn words."  When we learn a new word we will add it to our wall!  Thank you, Jessica, over at Under the Alphabet Tree for the idea!

Thanks for stopping by!  It is going to be a great year!
